Palm Shores is the smallest town we serve — about 1,200 people, half a square mile, US-1 along the Indian River between Post Road and the Pineda Causeway. The name sounds beachside. A tiny mainland town that emptied out, then filled back in

Palm Shores incorporated in 1959, the same year West Melbourne did, as its own municipality along the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway. The town's own page puts it between Post Road and the Pineda Causeway, with the town limit running west on the causeway across the Florida East Coast Railway as far as Wickham Road. Total area is about 0.6 square miles, all land. The census is the odd part. 202 people in 1970. 77 in 1980. 210 in 1990. Then 794 in 2000, 900 in 2010, 1,200 in 2020. We are not going to invent a reason for the dip; the numbers are the numbers. What they mean for a wall is this: almost none of the housing stock is a 1960s space-boom ranch, and almost none of it is a brand-new Viera lot either. The town filled in late. The typical Palm Shores coat is a 1990s-or-later wall on a small mainland lot, close to US-1, with the lagoon on the east edge.

Suntree sits just inland and is unincorporated. Melbourne is a few minutes south. Neither is Palm Shores. A town this small gets absorbed into its neighbours on a map for convenience. We book the job under the town you actually live in.

What fails on a US-1 lot that faces the lagoon, not the ocean

A small-town wall has nowhere to hide a bad blend

Palm Shores lots are short. The house is close to US-1 or close to a neighbor, so a repair that does not match is the first thing a driver sees. We cut back to sound stucco, find the water — sprinklers, a roof edge, a lagoon-facing lintel — and rebuild in coats so the patch bonds. Then we mock the texture against the existing wall before we commit. Whatever finish is on the house gets copied on the house, in daylight, until the new work disappears into it. The lagoon is brackish, not surf, so we still check the steel on the east face, but we do not quote this town as if it sat on A1A.
