The oldest city in the county, and a second one built behind it
Rockledge was incorporated on August 7, 1887 — the same year as Titusville, and a year before Melbourne. It is the oldest municipality in Brevard. Gardner S. Hardee, an early settler, gave it the name for the coquina ledges along the Indian River; other accounts credit Cephas Bailey Magruder, who built a house he called "the rockledge home" after arriving in 1876. Either way the river is the reason the town is here. Rockledge Drive still runs the old waterfront, a stretch of the Indian River Lagoon Scenic Highway lined with oaks and houses that predate concrete block as the default wall.
Almost none of the volume is that old. The census: 3,481 people in 1960, 10,523 in 1970, then it kept climbing — 16,023 in 1990, 20,170 in 2000, 27,678 in 2020. Kennedy Space Center turned the west side into a bedroom, and the grid filled in along Fiske Boulevard, Barton Boulevard and Barnes Boulevard, through subdivisions that went up from the late 1950s into the 1980s: Virginia Park, Levitt Park, Woodsmere, Rockledge Country Club Estates. So a Rockledge repair is either a river house whose substrate might be anything, or a space-boom ranch whose thin original coat has had sixty years of sun. Those are not the same job. We will not quote the second as if it were the first.

Find out what the wall is made of, then fix that
On the river side of Rockledge the first question is the substrate. Coquina, old frame, clay tile and block all fail differently, and guessing wrong is how a patch drums a year later. We sound the wall, open it where it goes hollow, and deal with rusted steel or a water path before a coat goes back on. West of US-1 the wall is almost always block under a production coat, and the work is cutting back to sound material, tying new stucco into old, and matching a finish the original crew sprayed fast. Either way the texture is mocked against your own wall in daylight. A street of repeated elevations will show a mismatch from the sidewalk.

We masked the glass, scratch-coated the block, and tied the new work into the rest of the wall so the opening reads as one piece. Open it for both photographs.
